If you, or anyone you know, has a voice for writing or a passion for writing, this post might be for you. This pandemic has given many fortunate people a chance to slow down their hectic lifestyles and provided them with an opportunity to rethink their lifestyles. There is a favourable side of being a writer: there is always work to find, or ways to hone your writing voice.
Like creating a business or starting a new, extra job, being a writer takes effort, time and dedication. However, following these simple tips might be able to show you a future ahead in a shiny, new writing career. The COVID-19 scare has shown how resilient people can be in an overwhelming and scary situation, but you are rarely alone. Many people have looked at this intimidating beast of a new life path and figured out the baby steps to begin that journey. Thanks to the internet, many people have documented their own experiences and put their tips out into the world for people like you to follow! Here are my pointers for you to consider:
GRAB YOUR PEN AND PAPER, OPEN A BLANK DOCUMENT, AND GET WRITING.
As Jerry Jenkins, a writer of over two-hundred books, says: “Dreamers talk about writing. Writers write.” Just like any skill, whether it be candle-making, cooking, or debating, your writing voice needs to be practised. Write everything: poems, short stories, essays, product reviews, advertisements, a full-length novel; the possibilities are endless, but each piece of writing requires a unique skill set of writing tools. If you want to begin a writing career—the first thing you need to do is get writing. It feels simple, but it’s the first step into shifting into the mindset: I am a writer.
HOW CAN YOU PRESENT YOUR BEST SELF ON YOUR WRITING BLOG?
Ready to take it one step further? Start a writing blog. Review art exhibits, rate every restaurant within a one-mile radius, go on a book haul and tell everyone what you thought. Pick a topic, join WordPress, review products from places like Amazon or Coastal Business Supplies, publish those short stories you refuse to show your friends, or write your opinions on current global issues. Get your voice out into the world on your writing website and write daily! When you are ready to apply for stable writing jobs, you will have a personal website to plug to show people that you are serious about your writing.
EVENTUALLY, YOU WILL MAKE MONEY – BUT IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME.
You can’t expect to wake up as a prolific writer one day – it takes some necessary work to get there first. However, after creating your brand with your WordPress website, networking and prioritising your writer self, you will see a change. It’s taken every writer some struggling and days of empty pockets until they were able to make some cash. If you are persistent and passionate, I know you can make it as a writer.
