If you see people on the daily commute or hear people talking about their jobs, there can often be stressful situations or disdain. Not always, but often they are unhappy in their work and wish to do more with their time and life. And it makes complete sense that more people are looking to freelancing and working from home. There are so many reasons why it might be the best option. From health issues, to want to have more relaxed working hours. Here are some other ways in which working from home is great.
Office
Once you decide to work from home you can have your office anywhere you like. While you probably don’t love the idea of working from a hospital bed, or while you’re travelling in the Bahamas; something like a bifurcation stent or a delayed aeroplane won’t stop you meeting your deadlines. Where there is WiFi, there is a way.
Money
There are two great aspects of money that really changes things up.
- A study found that freelancers tend to make more money. With a median hourly rate of $28 and more for skilled services. That makes the earnings more per hour than 70% of the US.
- You save more money on commuting, office wear, to-go morning coffees, and other costs that add up from going into a workplace.
You can set your own rates which is incredibly liberating. After you have your foot in the door, and you have some experience under your belt, you can slowly raise your prices to target high-ticket campaigns, accounts and clients.
Freedom
If you decide that you don’t want to work for a few weeks, savings permitting, you can do so. The freedom to choose when you work and when you don’t is more than just choosing when it is that you want to take a holiday from the office. You can travel a little bit, you can relax, indulge in your hobbies, take some training. Your time is much more your own.
Enjoyable Meetings
This might be surprising because most people don’t love the idea of meetings – but you get to have meetings much more on your own terms. You don’t have to sit in warm meeting rooms with bad coffee, you can choose a restaurant or a coffee shop that you enjoy at other times. You can opt to have video calls only, and relax in your garden. Your meetings can be how you feel best suits you to work.
Focus
You can find what works for you in terms of focus periods. It might be that you work better in the evenings with warm tea and classical music. Perhaps it is in the morning with the radio, and the sunlight works for you. You have the time and space to work out when your most effective working periods are. You can sling your phone in the drawer, ignore your emails for a while and get everything finished.
Working from home is a great way to find a work-life balance that works for you.
