When it comes to being productive in the workplace, whether that’s at home or in the office, the workspace plays a major role in how much you get out of your working day.

From the lighting to the comfort of your chair and desk, there are certain changes to be made and to improve upon in order to keep you comfortable while working. Here are some tips to make your workspace as comfortable as possible so that you can continue to thrive in your role.

Get an ergonomic setup for your workstation

It’s important to set up your space with ergonomic equipment and furniture. From your desk monitor to footstools and computer chairs. All these elements of your workstation should be selected carefully to provide optimum comfort for your needs.

Every individual is different, so whether you’re working from home or in the office, you should have a workstation assessment to find out what you need to work productively and comfortably.

A lot of computer chairs are ergonomic, but there are different styles and setups, so it’s good to consider which options work best for you.

Keep the space tidy at all times

Keeping your space tidy at all times is important. When it comes to your workstation, having a cluttered desk does not make for a very productive environment. You want to be able to keep your work surfaces clean and free of mess.

Having a bin handy underneath the desk or off to the side should be effective in keeping this area tidy throughout the day. Make sure to clean up after yourself, much like you would if you were around someone else’s home.

Consider temperature levels and ventilation

Temperature and ventilation are two important elements to your workspace. Too hot or too cold and it becomes an ineffective working space. Try to keep the temperature levels suitable to your needs and if you can’t control the temperature, adapt your outfits accordingly.

It might be worth suggesting HVLS fans for the workplace which can be helpful in environments where temperatures get uncomfortable in the office during certain times of the year.

Separate your space from your breakout space

Make sure you keep your space separate from the breakout space you use for eating lunch or taking ten minutes to relax and reset. You don’t want to blur the lines by having everything at your desk, regardless of how you utilize this downtime.

It’s also important to step away and stretch your legs when working at a desk all day. It also gives your eye a rest if you’re staring at a computer screen for hours at a time.

Minimize noise and distractions

Noise and distractions can be a hindrance when it comes to performance and productivity. Therefore, it’s a good idea to try and keep both to a minimum. Identify where these noises or distractions come from and work on reducing them where possible.

You deserve a comfortable and productive workspace in order to make the most out of your working environment, wherever that may be.
